Kramer vs. Kramer
Sometimes it’s good to fan the flames of competition, especially when it’s in the name of creativity. So often we get caught up in the routine of running a business that it’s easy to forget that we are creative people who need to keep our right brain in tip top shape.
Howard and Angie both have very different styles in their photography, and they thought they’d give...

Model Behavior
Let this photo serve as hard evidence that Howard Cao has lights. Lots and lots of lights. Some might even say that he has a cornucopia of lights.
Now we can talk about what’s at the heart of this photo: Howard’s superb directing skills. At last week’s shoot, Howard told us that models don’t necessarily need to be human to be divas on set. ”Sometimes you just...
Prepping for Fall
The San Francisco summer is in full effect, but our heads are stuck in the future. Angie teamed up with food stylist Fanny Pan and prop stylist Daniele Maxwell to work on creating a photo for her upcoming fall promo.
The day began with some beautiful, refreshing snap peas. Yum!
Fanny artfully arranged our green bean salad. Working with a great food stylist is like having a gourmet cook,...
Angie's Book is Making the Rounds
Angie’s freshly updated portfolio has been doing a lot of traveling these days. It’s been swerving through the streets of San Francisco on the backs of bike couriers, navigating the FedEx labyrinths, and resting on the desks of designers and ad agency creatives all over the place. We’ve been getting lots of great feedback, and we can’t wait to update Angie’s book...
Road Trippin'
This week we put on our lab coats and spectacles for a medical/tech-inspired shoot down in Santa Clara.
Check out our noble steed! Any day that begins with a Sprinter van is a day destined for greatness. During the trip down south, we realized how very thankful we were for carpool lanes and the Step Brothers soundtrack.
The red carpet was rolled out for our first shot. We provided an...
Angie is Eating Wisely
Although the September issue of Yoga Journal has been out for a few weeks, we’re finally getting around to bragging about Angie’s beautiful photography in the Eating Wisely pages. Angie worked with food stylist Karen Shinto to create these bright and playful photos that inspire us to grab a chair and scoot towards the kids’ table.
It's IN the computer!
Cao Studio would like to introduce you to our newest member of the Zoolander family: Blue Steel! Blue Steel is our newest server that will proudly work alongside Magnum. He’s fully loaded with 15 terabytes of hard drive space and he’s ready to rock ‘n roll. Although Magnum is the OG of the Cao Studio servers, we have a feeling that the two will get along quite nicely....

What's for lunch?
It’s that time of day when our bellies start to grumble and the all-important question dances around in our heads: what’s for lunch? Today we’re craving pizza, so we’re torturing ourselves by looking at these tasty photos that Angie recently shot with food stylist Alexa Hyman. Mmmm…
Hairless Bigfoot or naked mole rat?
Bashful Bigfoot is getting some spa-quality skin treatments at the studio this week. Don’t worry, big guy. Your beastly fur is on its way…
Puppy Love
This cute little fella followed Howard home after he wrapped shooting an indie film directed by Randy Link. Mr. Puppy has actually been quite helpful around the studio; he cooks, he cleans, and he even gives us pony rides to cheer us up when the San Francisco fog dampens our mood. We’re quite fond of our new studio assistant, but we really wish he would start brushing his teeth more...
This just in: cake stencils are rad.
Chronicle Books just released this adorable cake stenciling kit, photographed by our very own Angie Cao. If you don’t like cute things, then please avert your eyes right now.
Behind the Scenes: Adam Lambert
Howard is finally getting around to shooting some personal work again AND has found an actual use for the mini clothespins we have in the studio!
We are Cao Studio, and we are here to win your...
